My good friends algierstheband @algiersmusic receiving much deserved exposure from guardianmusic yes they are that good!
Watch the new Algiers video for dark, protest song Blood
This Atlanta trio call themselves makers of “post-worldbeat”, and look likely to lay down a hardhitting debut album this year. This single emulates call-and-response gospel and American “negro” spirituals, filtered through distorted guitar and thumping drums.
Blood tackles tough subject matter about race and blackness in America, slotting in neatly with the band’s frequent social media posts about civil rights and protest movements. It’s the latest single to follow But She Was Not Flying, and due out on their self-titled album, set for release on Matador Records.
